Latest digital step by Messukeskus Helsinki: Investing in Augmented Reality

Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre has introduced a number of digital services for its customers over the course of a year. A dedicated mobile application and a fully revamped online service have been built to enrich touch point media. The latest addition is the AR project, which offers amazing possibilities for broader visibility to the clients of Messukeskus.

Messukeskus was the first congress organiser in Finland to bring AR (Augmented Reality) to its premises. This new technology blurs the line between what is real and what is computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear and feel. Augmented reality adds graphics to the natural world as it exists changing the way we experience the congress venue. The new AR service was launched in 2017.

“Building top services means not only having a great service attitude, but also working to improve the facilities, programme and digital services. Our new digital services combine real and digital encounters, simultaneously bringing these two rapidly growing media within the grasp of customers”, says Congress Manager Paula Blomster from Messukeskus Helsinki.

Augmented Reality is now a permanent part of the customer experience at Messukeskus. This is the first commercial AR application to be used in Finland. Messukeskus is the first international trade fair industry player to fully embrace augmented reality. The AR solution introduced by Messukeskus is also the first fully immersive AR solution in the world to be implemented in such a large-scale environment.

Visitors will be offered a wide range of experiences and services. AR can help visitors find the things that interest them the most, whether it’s an interesting stand, a favourite restaurant, a programme venue, or a colleague attending the congress. AR adds a Wow factor to the event with new content and entertainment. For congress organiser, AR opens wide new perspectives. Gaming and related insights can be used to get visitors hooked. AR covers a variety of elements, such as virtual posters, animation, games, interactivity, or guidance.
